Floe Drain Down Kit (for Whale system)
We have just bought one of these after a costly episode last winter, we had to have a new pump fitted due to frost damage, just been down to the van after draining down two days ago and blew the system out using the kit and surprisingly we got another litre of water from the system and now it is completely water free, it only took 20 minutes to do all the taps (hot 1st then cold each tap working toward the rear), shower head, outside shower and finally the water heater.

Well worth the money and far cheaper than a new pump, you can get them for Truma and Whale systems.

I had a burst pipe at Utoxetter last December. It was the cold pipe to the shower outlet in the garage. I reckon it had never ever been drained from new as the only way to be sure is as you know compressed air.
After draining the usual way I found another litre of water at least in the pipes using the compressor. Worth the money Bob

The red tap isolates the water tank and then I pump up the system to 20 psi through the water filter and pump whilst opening each tap hot/cold one at a time. As you say about 20 minutes to be thorough

I cut the top off a Hozelock connector and got the valve from an old cycle inner tube.
Although pictured I actually discarded the Hozelock washer as it proved unnecessary.
The other parts off ebay

Thats what I found Andy, I drained down completely at the Scout place in Southport then drove 10 miles to the storage area and checked again and all seemed well with no apparent water in the system, but two days later I decided to do the Floe system and like you I was surprised how much water was still left in the system.

Same procedure (only 15lb pressure as recommended by Floe) one tap at a time (hot/cold) working rearward through the shower head, then the outside shower and finally the water heater and I also got 1lt of excess water.

Just shows that draining down and running about 'does not" drain the system fully, be warned, it can be expensive

I leave mine pressurised too after draining. If I come back after a week and open a tap I expect a good gush of air  Wink

Never thought of that Andy, does that not put a permanent pressure on the water system though

No different for me as my system is pressurised in use (no microswitch taps) My pump is 20 psi so that is what I work to.

Then there is always the chance of getting stale water or smells from it if water is left in the system for a long time, getting rid of the excess helps keep the water system fresh.
