| Amboise festival in brief...
In the runup to the 20th anniversary... We cannot help but think about it : the due date is approaching quickly… The adventure started in 1994 when the Stavanger Brass Band came on tour in France. What a revelation ! They opened our eyes and our ears t o the path to the « French Brass Band FestivalOpen » which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2014. If the first decade had already hold an anniversary and a first positive record, approaching the 20th anniversary make us m easure the increased pac e of the movement throughout the country : the enthusiasm goes increasing, new groups are born in academies of music, amateur musicians want to discover this fabulous Brass world and create brass bands even in the rural parts of the country. These words c ould seem a bit ‘francocentric’ for our readers but they should not be understood this way. Obviously and as the organising committee, we are very happy to see a French Brass Band winning the Championships, as we are delighted to see Juni firs t prize. And we are all the more happier when the Marching Competition, a soors winning a British discipline is also won by a French Brass Band. Let us just recall that at the beginning of the adventure, French Brass Bands refused to enter the Amboise Open. Today, the y do not only wish to enter the contest, but they win ! What is very interesting for us is the foreign vision. All the members of the jury who came to Amboise and all very wellmusical world are unanimous : the musical quality of French Bras known in the s Bands is constantly improving, as well as the spirit of the competitors. The quality improvement and the increase in the number of Brass Bands are finally there and predict good fortune for the end this second decade. Therefore, it will still be necessary to convince again and again : first, our political elected representatives need to understand the benefits of this musical form and must not oppose it to of the French wind sections for example, second, the people in charge of music education ca pratices,n integrate this musical form within the framework of their program with collective then the music conductors of all types of ensembles must be convinced that there is no contradiction in the structure of the that they can all becomplementary, also French Brass Bands sorely need French composers to write pieces for them,And to end this long list, it is necessary to draw the attention of the specialist press to follow the movement and promote ensembles but this type of music group. We still have a long way to go before having the same number of bands than in the UK, in Belgium or in Switzerland. But considering our experience and what could be done, let us be optimistic. We will continue with the work started 19 years ago to be able to during the 20th anniversary that the Brass Bands movement shines on our national territory and that every region, department, say municipality has got one or several bands. | We are setting out on 7th of May and although it is our intention to visit Amboise for the Festival we cannot commit. We have yet to outline our travel plans plus the fact the weather always changes them for us. If we do get there we will look forward to seeing you as no doubt will some of our other MHF friends. Over previous years we have never booked. Hopefully there will be no problems this year either.

| Because that Aire is actually ON the campsite (we have been twice before) and we will not be allowed to hold a social gathering as it is an AIRE them's the rules.
There is an Aire not to far away in town but I for one will not feel secure leaving my m/h there for the best part of the day without some security.

| Quite a lot of French campsites don't like twin axles, caravan or Camper some also turn away RV's. I was told years ago its related to experience with "Pikey's".
Suppose it could also be that if you can afford extra wheels on your wagon why on earth do you want to stay on a "Municipal" campsite?

| its now't to with extra wheels and more to do the the Gypsy campsite 2 miles out of town, and the only way the Marie can control the site is to ban the twin axle vehicles, very unfair when they are obviously not from the group they are trying to control but genuine visitors to their beautiful town.

That sounds like a good point John as long as the tag axle members agree, the Aire is actually on the site a very short distance from the main campsite. - Quote :

No Mark they mean them great big TAG axle vans that the gypsy's own and that tear their grass up. ( sorry Jan n Baza couldn't resist that especially as i probably weigh a good bit more than your m/hs) There are two campsites in close proximity to Amboise but I would think the local public transport would be rubbish but both are an easy flat bike ride away, both under 3 miles. But the famous five would have to decide what they want to do and then I will make enquiries for both of them. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| As I mentioned in a previous mail. We had three vans broken into at Amboise municipal in 2010. All older vans perhaps with less security. We have always been concious of the poor security and the local Gypsy ( Pikey) sites. They have improved fencing around the site but pedestrians could easily gain access in 2012 when we were last there. | |

| Still pursuing the ban on tag axles I have had this reply whilst not a result for us at least they have committed to taking the matter to a higher authority and it does need to be addressed as people travel from all over Europe to watch family and friends enter this competition and as the web page does not state NO TAG AXLE vehicles allow it is time they made that clear or revoke the ban altogether. Surely the staff can distinguish between a genuine camper and a traveller person. The motorhome parking that Caroline is talking about is just behind the campsite and we would all be welcome there but I do not think they would reverse 5 places for but I will ask them. The fight goes on [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Dear Madam, Dear Sir, We are sorry for this inconvenient.
