Phone not working at home - peaceful but still want it working Very Happy

When you ring our landline, it sounds like it rings once then cuts you off, it doesn't ring in the house though.
We only have 1 BT junction box, yesterday I removed the broadband filter and the phone line and tried it again, it kept ringing (phone not plugged in) so I thought it was the phone but it has gone back to ringing once and cutting off so looks like it is the line. How come the broadband is working fine? theres only 2 wires in the box, you would think the broadband would be playing up too.
I have reported it and they will have if fixed by Thursday - no rush with BT is there Sad

Because BT have decide that unless you have a BT a/c you will no longer be able to use a current BT email address (like i have/HAD) unless you give then £24 p.a. and I thought that SKY who I now use pay BT for the use of their line that indirectly I was still a BT paying customer, no they say so I have changed my email a/c name and what problems that caused with passwords ect.

Just about got it sorted after 3 days of hair pulling and phoning people and companies, never again as will through the flipping lot through the window and go back to snail mail.

Yeah, gone through all that Steve, even with the phone unplugged when you try and ring it cuts you off so that eliminates a phone or extension fault

Well, BT said it would be fixed by Thursday and they would contact me within 24 hour of the fault being reported.
No contact made in nearly 2 days and they have just turned up to fix it, turns out it's the wire from the pole to the house, that wire has been up for 24 year as I know of, probably more, he said it was old wire - no kidding eh
But - he can't fix it today, some regulation about not being able to climb the pole if it has low slung wires, needs to come back on Tuesday with the platform vehicle.

Well the new wire got put up on Tuesday Very Happy
Did a speed check and was showing 2.09mb Shocked
Tried a few sites, all the same, fiddled to make sure everything was ok - no joy
Phoned BT last night and went through a few things (That I had already done!) - nothing
They called back this morning to see how it was - just the same
Said they were going to re-set the line at their end and will call back in the morning - fingers were crossed
Just got back home and thought i'd do another test, come back at 8.86mb, thats good to say they said to expect between 6 and 8 Very Happy
So, as Frank would say - happy days
