Not me but tell us more, what do you use?
used to work with a guy who used to make these out of sheeps horns, once brought some into work and asked me to cut them up for him, I only did one cut and give up when the maggots started dropping out affraid

I have one already but its a bit wobbly with the dslr on it, designed for a mobile phone I think!

been making walking stick from hedge rows for year, use then when out beating at local shoots around us got some strange looking ones now

Made one out of a broom handle, two years ago when I had problems with my left knee. Now kept in the cupboard just in case!

I've been making them for a few years now.l keep my eyes open looking for likely shanks (sticks).Then I cut them and store them for about 3 yrs before I straighten them. Then the work begins.I like my sticks to have some character and be a little unusual. Anyway, it keeps me out of trouble and is a very satisfying hobby.

Then the work begins.I like my sticks to have some character and be a little unusual. Anyway, it keeps me out of trouble and is a very satisfying hobby.I also make knives and leather sheaths and have been known to make the odd guitar or two

I just cut a nice shaft at beginning of season and off I go,i pick up my best one this year it has a large swollen knot which I have calved in to a nice shape that fits my very large hands perfect this is my van stick

Just been to Whin yeats cl site. Found a straight ish beech stave.. About 7ft long with honeysuckle wound around it. Will make a good walking pole. May sell to a Druid..!

You can straighten it by putting it in a vice and playing a hair dryer on the offending bend, get it nice and warm then pull it over straight and let it bend back to straight then allow it to cool.

Yes, it's much easier to do with beech than with hawthorn. I have about 7 0 shanks to do at the moment. That will keep me busy for a while. I like to make them a little rustic and not always straight. I've also started doing a bit of carving on them for a change.

Not too good at carving myself, my "specialty" is a rope twist which can look very good but I go no further than that.

Mark out the stick with the desired rate of twist, cut along the line with a thin blade such as a junior hacksaw, cut from in between the lines into the hacksaw cut with a craft knife, you will soon get the idea as the twist begins to form.
