as discussed in yorkshire  :D .

would it be a good thing?

as most of our meets are in fields and remote.and our average age heart attacks are a possibility,if we had a defibrillator it would improve the chances of survival dramatically.
we can raise the money if we put our minds to it :D

cost between 900 and 1100.

what do you think?

Yeah, good idea as long as we can keep arranging who will be at the next meet and they are willing to take it

Well the days of doing chest compressions to the Bee Gee's "staying alive" and "nelly the elephant" have gone.
Giving the kiss of life is now frowned upon and they only expect first aiders to do the compressions and they now reccomend you to do 100 press per minute

I think anything that can save lives is a good thing, but I think there are some questions you may wish to explore before making a outright purchase.

If as suggested they may become compulsory before you can obtain insurance, I would think that would drive a hire market, is it possible to hire these now?

What sort of maintenance do they need ?

Can anyone use them, do people need to be trained?

Would it be possible to hire it out to others to recover some of the costs, and to help others.

How about arranging a first aid meet? anyone interested?

Hi, Again, it would seem from a quick read ? that training is needed and from what I can see its not cheap, so I think you would need to include training costs in your overall plan, here's a link to the St Johns Ambulance web site where you can get some more information.

Hi, Again, some slightly confusing information, here is a link to a company that hires Defibrillators which they appear to suggest are easy to use, which makes me wonder why other places are suggesting training and certification is necessary.

I am totally confused, help

As I said above I think that anything that saves lives is a good thing, I personally am not too sure I would be happy clipping a couple of pads onto someone and passing a shock through them without someone, a medical professional,  at least showing me how it was supposed to be done a few time beforehand ?

Will discuss it Frank.
they are appearing in high streets now, mounted on the wall, come with full step by step instructions.
The first aid meet is a good idea, will look into that
thanks

Hi, Here's a link to the British Heart Foundation web site on the topic of Defibrillators, they suggest that you should contact the NHS Ambulance service before getting one ? not sure what information they can provide, but I think it would be worth a phone call to get there reaction.

They have also produced a PDF file which you can obtain from the same link giving more details on the situation, there is also a suggestion that the BHF may be able to help with funding ?
