Hi,
everyone this is my first post so please excuse if I get it a bit wrong.
We retire next year and are hoping join you travellers into sunnier climes,realy like the autotrail araphaho looking for a 08/  09/any advice on buying,bit worried about bad press about fiat mechanics ie gearboxes etc

Steve n Rose, there are a few Autotrail owners on this site that will gladly give you some advice and help but you have picked a real bad time as most of them will be away this weekend and some will be away much longer as the touring season is starting, if you get no response shortly try posting again after the weekend and some will be around then.
I had a Fiat 2.8Td for 8 years and did 120000 miles in her, did have a problem in the early days with 5th gear but that problem is well sorted now.

Hi Steve and Rose, welcome to the forum.  Not had an Autotrail but both our motorhomes have been Fiats and both have been fine (ours were 56 and 06 so older than you are looking at).  Whatever you decide, I wish you luck with your travels.

Hi we had a Bolero 08 and it was 07 to 09 I think that had the issues just check that the seller has had the scuttle mod and also the reversing judder mod. As to the Autotrail so far not had one sorry.

I am on my second Autotrail Apache 700. On the Autotrail side if the luton has side windows have it damp checked as they were a problem. If there is a outer locker behind the drivers door this also requires a damp check.  Can't comment on the Araphaho but the Apache are no longer fitted with the problem luton windows and said lockers. I have had a gas/electric fire in both the Apache which I find very efficient keeping me warm.
On the Fiat side as stated make sure the gearbox judder has been modified.  Although I didn't find it a problem on the 58 Fiat I had.
You don't say which engine is fitted to the Araphaho but I think it's a 5 ton motorhome and would be better if fitted with a 3ltr engine. Do take a test drive and chose a steep hill to make sure your happy with the engine power.

Forgot to add Autotrail have a customer care and technical help line manned in the factory and I have found the staff very helpful. You could give them a call.

Spoke to a dealer in Halifax Yorkshire at the weekend
he said just make sure its had the upgrades nothing to worry about
Roll on retirement next year !!
