| hia not sure if i have asked this before but seeing we have a few new members would be good to hear their thoughts on the subject as well as yours So here goes After my adventure I have a few pounds left surprise surprise so thinking of having LPG instead of Propane. I will not be changing my van and hopefully will still be going off here there and everywhere for the next few years. a 9 size lasts for about 2 months (if I dont go blowing my cowl off ) they ar £20 about (but at the moment I dont pay that but it could change ) so are they easy to fill and easy to find garages are more places stocking LPG and yes I would have an outside cap thingy Will my stove & oven, fire and water work ok for year of van 2005 I do have a chap that can fit it for me and he is gas registered and he does habitats and repairs. good man to know is Carl (not my Carl) right I wait patiently for the flood of replies and I say THANK YOU | |

| Hia Polly, I take it you mean re-fillables, and yes, I wouldn't be without mine. If you do decide to go ahead, I would also specify a new regulator, which is best fitted above the top level of the bottles:D | |

| Do it. If you're out in your MH a lot it will pay for itself in no time. We have had two long trips this year so far, first was France, Spain and Portugal in February and France, Belguim, Holland, Germany, Poland, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia in May and June. We could refill our gas-it bottle in all of these countries. It seems to be the motorway stations that have LPG refill points, I believe there is an App available to steer you to the nearest one, we never had any trouble at all. | |

| Best thing we ever bought, ours will have paid for itself by now and we will be taking it off when we change vans, we have two bottles but you could easily manage with one, when you empty the refillable bottle switch over to the rip off priced bottle them switch back as soon as you have refilled _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Gas-it is cheaper than Gaslow and I've heard they are made in the same place, don't know how true this is though, another supplier is Autogas 2000 Price - I have 2 6kg bottles as I can't fit an 11kg one in my locker due to it not being high enough and it usually costs me about £13 or £14 but it's not quite empty

| Polly over here in France....at the moment it is, ..9kg is about 18 ltr pump price of auto gas... So. 18 ltr is around €11.70...or € to £ ...£9.70...just under half what you are paying for an exchange bottle..BUT you do not have to wait till empty to refill just top up when required ..as some people exchange before needed just so they have a full bottle to go away with. the price can vary a little from region to region, | |

| Good point Polly...but i would think not a lot of difference..for you..Auto gas sold in petrol stations is either pure Propane or a mixture of propane/ butane mix depending in which country you purchase the Auto gas..hot country or a colder climate..Spain / Portugal..or the Uk.. as Propane has lower boiling point to Butane...so more propane in the UK and more butane mix in Spain Portugal.....Propane has a lower boiling point than butane so it will continue to convert from a liquid to a gas even in very cold conditions, down to -45ºC. When stored....I hope that helps you Polly

| POLLY..Most people put the connection on the side skirt...NO POLLY not your dress/skirt...along the bottom of your motorhome side...keep it well away from your FRIDGE / FREEZER GRILL .for safety reasons...do not put the filler connection inside your gas bottle chamber....also do not put it on the outside of the gas box door......try and keep your filler connection a little distance away for the gas bottle compartment...for the LPG/GPL/PLG garage attendant if they think you are filling a none refillable bottle they will stop you..(over in France) so may be the same in the UK. Also Polly before you go into a garage to fill LPG...TURN OFF YOUR FRIDGE FEEZER as you do not want it to keep trying to ignite...because when you un-couple the gas fill nozzle the is a spirt of gas mist on disconnection...safety Polly....and turn both bottles taps off....
And don't forget to put your fridge freezer back on Polly

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]This page shows the growing need for autogas stations throughout Spain and the inroads the Spanish are making, but have you noticed the NEW connection valve, it's different from the 4 I used to carry so I would not be able to refill without one. | |

| Bob, I have four adaptors also ...this is one of them it was supposed to be the new European adaptor (not used as yet)..if you look at my adaptor profile and look at the one already fitted on the car for the pump to connect to it is the same..the link you are showing is an adaptor that screws to the car so it accepts the pump...or correct me if I am wrong [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Hi Mel, the screw in part looks similar but the pump attachment looks thicker than I remember, I have not got mine now so I cannot compare them. The ones I got were for " Repsol " pumps so this company " DISA " may be using a different version of the same adaptor. | |

| Hia Don't worry at least I know someone's about The connection on the outside does that mean the hose from the bottle goes out under the van to the connection where you fill up. How do you know your bottles empty besides the kettle not boiling, or should I say nearly empty. If I can fit two in my locker do they switch over automatically or manually. Also is it rubber hose as I have the stainless steel at the moment the moment That's tonight's question | |

| Yes the pipe will go at the back of the skirt ..not a great distance...now if you are having two refillable bottles leave one of the bottle tap closed and when you run out shut it off and open the other refillable and then refill when you get to the next lpg petrol station or a gas station...or..if you only have one refillable bottle and one normal exchange bottle do the same.....or Keep topping it up when near a gas station even though the refillable may only be half full or half empty....or have a gauge fitted to tell you what gas you have left in the refillable bottle..but to be honest POLLY they are not very good..I have three different types and none are what I would say perfect or reliable....we top up when needed or run one out on one refillable bottle and then top it up..while using the other refillable..( I have 2 x 11kg refillable alugas ...bottles) I have a automatic change over BUT I prefer to use it manually as then I know what gas I have and when it needs refilling...NOT ending up with two bottles empty??? if you see what I mean POLL simple things can always end up the best not to technical...mine are rubber but not the standard rubber hoses...but many do fit stainless..of the correct type / grade...look on Gaslow web site Poll | |

Well if this doesn't hit the nail on the head so to speak nothing else will convince me to switch to LPG
Just been up to my local Travis Perkins and no one about in the yard so go into shop . Nice young chap asks if he can help so I asked if they had a6 propane gas. He checked and it said one showing. ( yes I've heard that before) so out we go wo and behold he as one which he lifts out extremely at ease. So off we go to get my empty one and put this new one in the car and then go and pay. I put the empty one on the floor and I proceed to lift up the full one at the same times he young chap. I take it off him and wow it's as light as my empty one. Said I'm not having that it's not full. He says it's still got the seal on. I turned the seal cap that came undone so easily. I said no not having it it's not full. I also told him the last one only lasted 2 weeks instead of a month No and left him stood there Bit long winded that but wanted to explain

| Hi Polly, just wanted to add my opinion on LPG. I've been travelling in Europe for the last 3 years and could not manage without it. I have 1 x 11kg bottle which is secured in the gas cupboard and has a connection to the outer panel. To refill, I just unscrew the cap and add the appropriate adaptor (I have 3 for the various European countries I visit). Never had a problem filling a fuel stations abroad or in the UK. The filling process can be a bit confusing and scary at first, so get the attendant to help you but you soon get used to it. I travel alone and fill up every 2 or 3 weeks but an 11kg bottle would probably last me 4 weeks, depending on the weather coz if it's cold I would use the gas fire more. Up to 3 weeks of gas hob, hot water and O/N fridge usage usually costs me about €10. However, it cost me about €500 to have the system installed. Still worth it for the long term cost savings as well as the convenience of being able to refill anywhere. I use this website for finding fuel stations with LPG (GPL) while travelling - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]mylpg.eu | |
