I have been banned from a campsite

Today when leaving Shawhall caravan site we where asked not to return again, as we where the only campers on the site for 2 days and all we did was clean out our lockers of gear we did not need to cart too Spain and back we could not understand why, Barb's snoring is not that loud then the not so nice lady told us, its because you have a european motorhome and your door is on the wrong side.

Well I will drive onto the pitch so my door Hab door is facing the right way, no that will not do as the sight line of the rows do not look right and anyway you would have to reverse off in an emergency, I can do that a damn site quicker than having to hook a caravan up to move it, and I will be away in seconds, no we will not allow you on this site again.

Well kiss my aris, so you would rather have me not pay you £25p.n. (Jan and Feb is £12.50) just because I have to reverse off a pitch, yes that's it goodbye she sternly tells me, well Shawhall you can stuff your site and I will go were we are welcome.

Bob can you give me full details so we can see the site as it sounds like it may be peaceful now

Always knew you were a trouble maker Bob - you should have known not to to have the door on the wrong side- you could have offered to get out the cab doors instead!and you were upsetting all the other campers who weren't there-pathetic!!!

No Sog Frank, the problem was we were getting out on the pitch next to us, and as we where the only one on site with 47 empty pitches out of 48 I could not see what the problem was. It's pathetic.

We don't join cc or c&cc any more because of this reason!, having said that us that all have euro doors could all turn up at the same time to the site that'll give em something to sweat about

Private site or not Andy, how can you turn away somebody willing to pay for a pitch on an empty site and then say they are not welcome because the Hab door is on the wrong side.

By the way that rule would include your m/h as well and it would also stop every european tourist from visiting the site although it is only a short bus ride into southport

I would have refused to pay

I had already pre booked and payed Andy and stayed there on a previous occasion with Ken and Frank, I was never asked if I had a european m/h, we made no mess, emptied our water in the correct places and left the pitch as we found it, just do not understand the logic of it.

I will do Andy, I have written a stern letter to the campsite owners not for the ban but for their attitude, there are some sites you are not allowed on with our type of m/hs because of elf n safety, and if they had asked me before they took my money I could have made other arrangements.

I have been on many C&CC sites and had no problem with reversing/driving onto a pitch so my Hab door is the correct way .

I can understand them wanting to have all the hab doors on the same side especially if there is a caravan with an awning next to you, but can't see it matters if you drive on or reverse on, think they need to look at the pitches before anything else, they are tight to get onto without running over the grass. remember helping to push that caravan on then he got his remote out for the motor mover

Cheeky muppet Ken exactly my sentiments, imagine that plonker trying to get off the pitch in an emergency and all I had to do was fire up and reverse off the pitch, they can stick their poxy site.

Their idea is to get you to step out onto the astra turf rather than the grass which is fair enough, the bit I can't get my head round is why you HAVE to reverse on and they won't let you drive on, its just as easy to get off in an emergency in either gear.

We were asked to drive into our pitch at CC Rowntree Park for the very same reason, our door was on the wrong side for them. This is the very first time we have ever been asked to do this on a CC or C&CC site. When Rowntree Park flooded and we were asked to evacuate, we were gone in seconds, despite having to reverse.

Don't understand Shawhall's problem.

When we had the Hymer we were never asked to park the other way, when we went on Aires overlooking a beauty spot we were the same as them. Now we are wrong par say but we just get talking to them (sign or English) and explain 90 % are fine

Hi all Debbie is back. A thought occured to me after reading about the behavior of this site, what if you turned up in a british made van, where the door is at the back? I will have to leave the rest of my comment as bad language is frowned upon.

Hi Debbie, don't think that seems to bother them we have seen it time & again if the doors are at the back and reverse in it is ok

Just spotted your post re banned from campsite. I would like to add the campsite was totally correct on certain factors. If all would like to check on the Natural England Website, annex 1D safety spacing of units. There is a diagram supplied by the ACCEO that shows that all caravans and motorhomes face forward onto the road. The reason for this is in the event of a fire / flood etc every body leaves in the same direction causing no confusion, this is why most sites are now adopting a one way system. Which also means you can erect your awnings without comprimising your neighbours enterence and exit. This is done for health and safety reasons. We went to several camping and caravaning rallies last year and I am sure evrey one had adopted this policy. The site should had taken you to an alternative area which allowed doors to open on the other side. I think all marshalls should be aware of this as we also have to adopt this policy at our rallies. I can understand Bob that you were the only van at the site at this time but obviously this facing is part of their health and safety policy.

Caravan club haven't bothered me yet on 4 sites, just told please park centre of your pitch. As for leaving in an emergency the correct procedure would be to leave not necessarily with your vehicle (if it is that urgent)

Yes but a continental caravan cannot reverse in so someone has to give. The hab door rule is bollox

Unfortunately it is up to the site to determine they're own rules within reason using a governing body, I would imagine.
We were looking at booking a site earlier and the minimum stay was for 3 nights now that's what I call b@//@cks!
