| It all seemed to start with Comet, closely followed by Jessops and HMV. Today it was announced that BlockBuster has gone into Administration. There will not be a high street left for us all soon. | |

| we went to ormskirk today to do a bit of shoplifting, there is loads of empty shops.but about 8 charity shops,3/4 bookmakers.loads of jewellers{all empty}and cheap crap shops. if the greedy councils and the greedier landlords dont drop the charges, the high st will be history. you have to park and pay,and god help you if them traffic wardens get a sniff that you could be a little late...booom. you cant charge tip top rates and then charge tip top parking charges.not in this present economy, something has to give. rant over ps the shoplifting was aborted when i seen all those cameras. but we did buy a wanda beetween us. | |

| Problem that I forsee is that councils will end up with less income due to empty shops which could result in council tax rises for householders or cuts in services - neither of which is good! | |

| Hi,
It really is getting worrying, just think of the amount of people employed in those high street shops that will be out of work with very little prospects of finding anything else.
Perhaps there needs to be a change in attitude of the British public as while I do an awful lot of on-line shopping, I cannot bury my head in the sand and say it has nothing to do with me if we start to find rising unemployment.
It would seem that to stay alive in the high street ARGOS have perhaps the best model, they even have a TV shopping channel.
