Lifter off ebay. All steel from metal supermarket local but they're nationwide less than £100 total including paint which is a good wedge

You can put a padlock through the winding port to prevent inserting the shaft and the shaft is specific to the winder being 5 sided. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Does it drop it all the way to the floor or just release the pressure off it? It might be a sealed unit but I'd protect it just in case, bit of amalgamating tape on the cable ends too

Of course it has to drop to the floor or you'd never lift it. The winder and cable are fine no need for any additions

I have come across wheels a lot bigger than that which you have to man handle onto the carrier some of which had cables and ratchet fitted

I simply drag the tyre under the van using an old curtain, hook it up and wind it . Sorted

I discovered a bonus which was promted by a question I was asked Whilst dropping the wheel today to extend the hot water dump pipe [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I thought about the question and fully unwound the cable to discover it will reach the nearside of the van [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] It also winds back up from there too!
A bit of added security [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
