We are all used to it and got to know where all the letters are, would you try another type?

Seems some boffins have come up with another which is supposed to be better for thumb typing on tablets and smart phones.

I will try it when its available but think I know now that I won't stick with it

PS - expect some weird posts from me soon Qwerty keyboard?? 372028940 Qwerty keyboard?? 372028940

Christopher Latham Sholes invented the Qwerty Keyboard as it has the most commonly used letters in the area for your index fingers to hit. I cannot see that there is any other layout that will be as efficient, personally.

If all modern typists had their chairs adjusted higher so that their keyboard is lower, they wouldn't keep dragging their wrists on the edge of desk or keyboard. I question that H & S are really doing keyboard users any good.

Sorry, off my soapbox now Embarassed

This isn't for normal keyboards or touch typists though, its for smart phones and tablets, the idea is you use your thumbs to type, personally I don't use my thumbs, I type same on a phone/tablet as I do on a keyboard - 1 finger Laughing

Sorry, forgot to post the link and just realised Sad
If you look at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] you will see how they hold it and can see the logic, I don't hold mine that way, use one hand and a finger from the other hand to type

So what are the two blank keys do you think they are 'spaces'?

I cannot type with my thumbs either, being a trained typist I use my fingers on one hand and hold the phone with the other. When on the iPad, I type like a typist using all fingers and thumb.

Mostly right but the main reason for the QWERTY keyboard was to get the most commonly used keys as far away from each other as possible. The original typewriters had a row of keys ie. ABCDE because the most used letters were close together the little type faces would jam. So they decided to move them as far away from each other as possible to stop the typewriter jamming.

The new keyboard sounds good but think its going to have to be something you hold. This appears to have come about because of the way people use their thumbs when texting ...
