Has anyone done this crossing late October/early November with LD Lines and if so, how was it? Silly question, but is it likely to be a pretty choppy crossing? We're thinking of going over for October half-term.

did it all year round for 20yrs for company I worked for and only on rare occasions did we have a rough crossing, go for it and enjoy.

Seems to have been taken over by DFDS....
Good price though - £144 return.
How easy is the journey to Portsmouth from the North/Midlands compared with the route to Dover.

I would say much nicer/easier, you have no M25 to contend with nor toll bridge, and the Newbury bypass was a lifesaver.

With no traffic on the M25!
We allow 5 hours to Dover. Can easily loose an hour on the M25 on a Friday evening.
£144 from Portsmouth sounds a agood deal. Is that a typical price for that crossing?

Well after all that we've decided to go Dover to Calais! As I was flitting around checking routes & prices, fares were increasing by the hour. I swear each website was tracking the activity & putting the prices up in anticipation of increased demand! We only have 8 days available to us, so have gone for the cheapest option. Still, it's time away! And it gets Chugga out on the road!
