| I would probably have a garage look at it first just to confirm what the problem is, then go from there. just my thoughts. | |

| Some alternator faults can easily be repaired by an auto electrician and can be a lot cheaper than buying a new one, you need to find one that repairs them though and not just changes them, west end auto's in Oswaldtwistle I recommend them if you haven't got one in Barlic. But if you are changing it yourself, they are easy enough although a bit fiddly, 2 bolts hold it on, 1 bolt needs removing from the tensioner and the wires need disconnecting, there not usually good to get at though, and most important thing DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Quick replys thanks Tony's not home as he would have more detail than me but basically we know 1.there is no power coming from the alternator 2. If its a 140watt (is that right ) its £160 for a Boch one should say here thats for a new one as they do recon ! 3. Been told it could be a swine to get at as its at the back of the engine and exhaust and such have to come of 4. Thanks Ken we do have one in Barlick i think and not had time to price up a repair but will ring your one as well seeing they come recommended 5. Thanks Burchies but if it goes into be checked they might as well do it as it will cost enough just for them to check it. Thanks Sandra | |

| That doesn't surprise me, they used to be so easy to get at till someone decided it would be a good idea to put the engines in sideways now you can't get at anything! _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

Sandra, you shouldn't get charged anything for a reputable garage to tell you what is wrong. They will also be able to give you a quote for the work which needs to be carried out. Thanks Mark.

| I understand your motorhome is a Swift/Bessacar.
If you look around the battery area you will find an inline fuse which when blown disconnects the charge from the habitation area of the motorhome.
This will put the battery light on the dash - did on my Swift.

| We had wet weather and the vehicle probably been stood so it could be stuck brushes in the alternator.
A light tap with a hammer on the alternator would sort that - if that is the problem.

| It's Done I know I said on Tuesday the re build had begun well it had but 2 hrs in............disaster we had the wrong alternator No fault of ours thou ! To be fair it wasn't really the fault of the suppliers either. Anyway due to work commitments poor Tony couldn't take the new off till yesterday and then a bit of a long morning for me today but we then had a usable alternator !!!! And even after being in work the poor lad got straight on with it this afternoon and hey presto it's all sorted !! Been a bit of a bad week really got car keyed last Sunday all this messing about with the alternator ! Noughts straight forward for us. Anyway all done ! Thanks everyone for your advise ! Sandra | |
