Switching to talk talk today.
I know they didn't have a good reputation a few year back but that seems to have changed now according to reviews, years ago I was on with Pipex, probably the best service provider I have ever been with, anyway, they sold out to talk Talk and their reviews at the time were that bad I didn't risk it and switched.
I only had the normal telephone wire with BT but I am getting put on fibre with Talk Talk, unlimited internet, unlimited calls 24/7 and you view TV all for around £10 less than BT, plus BT recently started charging for extras like caller ID etc.
So anytime now I will be offline, hope its not for long  Sad

Don't have much chance in changing here -BT own the line and when you talk to other providers they are no cheaper than BT

Long time before we get fibre -still waiting for gas and connection to main sewer lol

They use BT's lines Pete, and if anything goes wrong its usually an openreach guy that comes out to fix it

Do a check Pete [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
You don't necessarily need a cable laying in the street, they put the fibre to the green boxes now and still use your wires to the box, we had a cable laid here 15 year ago by cable and wireless but they never activated it, they needed to put a new box on the street but couldn't get planning permission.

What amazed me was BT have never contacted me to ask why i'm leaving or asked me to stay, do they not want to keep customers nowadays  Shocked

Weve been with TalkTalk for about 8 years never any major probs just niggling broadband occasionally but when you phone & speak to "Ranjit" he sorts it out  Very Happy.
We have changed the package 3 times to our advantage & recently have paid an extra 7 quid for the Youview box which we are very happy with.
Finally we bought the chromcast dongle a few week back for 30 quid...Totes amazeballs.

We like the You view, had it for a couple of year, have you got the app so you can set the recorder when away from home?

I wasn't on a contract for the phone line, had been with them for over 30 years.

I changed to Plusnet ISP some years ago as tesco were stopping dail up internet.  We are in a rural location and Tesco were trying to charge me a large amount of money for broadband.

So being Yorkshire bred I phoned a number of ISPs who weren't much better on price then an advert was on the tele for Plusnet and I gave them a ring.

Although broadband speed will never be great here they charged £11 per month.

Then the BT line went down and Plusnet couldn't have been more helpful.  BT were blaming the Plusnet modem which was replaced free of charge.  The fault remained so Plusnet took BT to task on my behalf and no surprises here it was the BT line which had perished and had to be replaced.

Since then I have moved the telephone line to Plusnet and with broadband it is £17.50 a month as special offer for an existing customer.  I am happy as I know Plusnet will help with any issues I may have.

Incidently I do not have any interests in Plusnet just a happy customer.

Ooo forgot to add that! oops

I believe Plusnet being owned by BT gave Plusnet the advantage in challenging BT to repair our line.  Certainly didn't take long once Plusnet were involved Smile

Well no loss of service, just about 15mins to fit the new cable entry box and switch the wires over in the outside cabinet

Looking at this thread I began to wonder how much I am paying for line rental and broadband, blimey a massive £49.92 per month, gonna look at plusnet on google I think, bound to be cheaper surely.
I have just finished my mobile phone contract and rang Orange to see about going "Pay as you go", spoke to a young woman who asked why. so I said it was far too expensive and I didn't need the minutes or the texts since retiring.  She suggested I went for a lower plan so I have moved from £32.32 per month including VAT to £8 per month including VAT, big difference I think, this extra money I will waste wisely.  Another Bye Bye BT maybe.
Any helpful comments about changing will be gratefully received.
Cal

All straight forward Cal.
I just signed up online for talk talk and everything was done for me, others you might have to ring your current service provider and ask for a mac code

Was going to sell the Bt  tv box but looked at the prices and there not worth much, not worth listing so decided take the hard drive out and bin it, was expecting a 2.5" drive but it has a 3.5" 160gb sata  drive in, just bought a candy for it, will make a nice external drive to store films on for the tv Very Happy

You get all the freeview channels but you get 7 day catchup, rewind and pause live tv, a recorder and you can set the recorder while away from home, plus you can use other services to watch on demand films etc

Oh, one tip is pay for your line rental up front, £126 for the year, otherwise it's  £15 a month, saves you about £50 a year

All in place now, nice and easy with a considerable saving to boot, thanks for reminding me about paying up front for line rental Ken, more savings, just sit back and wait for my package to arrive.

Well that idea didn't work  Sad  the drives are locked and up to yet I can't access it  Sad
I put it in the caddy and plugged it into PC which didn't even recognise it (Windoze) so got my Gparteed live CD out, won't boot with Windoze 8  Sad need to update it to latest version so will be doing that soon, so off I went back to the trusted Linux PC, plugged the drive in and it recognised it straight away  Very Happy
Tried formatting, removing partition, changing formats etc - all failed because of the lock  Sad had another drive so I put that in and it worked straight away, only a temporary one, I have a 400gb drive in the PC thats not getting used now, was a mirror drive, so I will take that out soon and use that.

Ken I thought I posted a link for you but? Found a cracking thread using Google and searching
Format bt tv box to fat 32
Or similar and found an excellent post on how to, so a search messing about with the words should sort it for you
