Refurb

I braved the cold this morning, and serviced the Fiamma door lock. It is secured by four bolts, but oh wonders never cease, two of the bolts didn't reach the lock......CROSS!! Replaced the two bolts, tightened up the rotating bit, and loctited it, re-greased every thing else and job is good one. I had already put the heater on, so I decided to tackle the fridge. Disconnected it and carefully got it out, and as you would expect everything was filthy

So I hoovered all the loose muck, then washed everything that I could get to, as a temporary measure I taped up the vents to stop the wind howling through.

That looks cleaner and I refitted the flame guard whch I found lying in the bottom of the cabinet

Fridge re-connected, gas checked and tomorrow will finish the re-fit. Before putting the door back on I will give the interior a proper good clean.

At least they left plenty of wire on yours, when i took mine out i had to disconnect all the wiring, that was the easy bit, trying to get the fridge back in while holding the wiring to stop it disappearing down the back was the tricky bit, and mines the wheel arch model and they don't stand on their own, they want to fall backwards because of the narrow base

Hi Ken, I had to disconnect the gas and mains, but the battery wiring was nice and long, and I'm glad it's not a wheel arch model. When your fridge is fitted, does it form a good seal or do you get draughts through there? That's another problem I will be addressing with mine. I don't know who last had the fridge out, but whoever it was, they either didn't know what they were doing or just didn't give a dam what they did. Even the flue was incorrectly fitted, and that's important to get exactly right.

Polly, I've put some masking tape on the fridge door, and written on it, «do not use vents blocked and flue not fitted yet» just in case I get a senior moment!

We did get a draught from sides and the top, I put some of the draught excluded tape on the sides which has helped, but we still get a draught from the top when it is windy

Mostly the interior job on the fridge is done, although I may put some extra trim all round the fridge to neaten it up, and if I get the weather breaks, I will be able to finish the outside bits.

Well would you believe it, after such a horrible start to the day, the sun came out this afternoon, so I managed to get on the outside bits, so my fridge is now fully operational. Still too cold to get on with the body seals, so I reckon I will be at the Easter meet with my ongoing project. So looking forward to getting on the road again.

Not got an awful lot done today, have made up the mock curtains and stripped one of the overcab cushions....will probably need counseling after handling this one, mold from body sweat, yuk!

Show the need for mattresses and cushions to be raised from flat surfaces  and aired regularly

Today finished off the mock curtains, and the new water tank arrived, so my lounge area is looking better. Still have to re-upholster the seat cushions.

Is you water tank hung underneath?

Yes I have an under-slung tank, un-insulated, so not winterised. The new tank will be going inside, under the nearside bench seat. The old tank will be removed at some point, a job that won't be too easy!

You could leave the other tank in situ & use it as a secondary tank by putting a tap between the two?...Just a thought Debbie.

Too much weight, as I carry 10 litres of drinking water in a container as well. I also want to paint the chassis and have been told, Hammerite is good for this, what did you use?

You could just fill both tanks up when you are on site for a while saving you having to go back to the tap, I know it would be a weight issue but as long as you dont travel like it I dont see a problem.
what do others think? Or is my idea not good   .
I used high grade bitumen underseal on mine with a paintbrush very messy but just the job.

I am not very technical but you have asked what others think

My fresh water tank is in the bottom of the wardrobe and in the summer months--- well all the other months that winter doesn't cover ---- the months of extreme cold----I usually fill up or 3/4 fill at home before I go away
Ok there is only me and izzy but I also carry enough junk for a family 
So weight      
Then on sites use my watering can.

I have a wastes tank that is emptied as soon as possible

The story of the waste tank ___ well I was bought a caravan waste thing on wheels so when we went on our first family holiday I placed this wastes thingy underneath and put the wastes pipe in it
We had a red light come on in the van and this is when I found out I had a waste tank and it was full. Oh the smell when we emptied it . Now I just take a callapsable bucket
Use to get the egg armourer when driving but then I put the plugs in the plug holes as I had read somewhere about stale smells coming up through the plug holes now I know why

I know what you mean Polly, the stench that comes out of waste tanks is diabolical. I have never had a waste tank, and I use a bowl in the sink which I empty into a convenient drain, or water the plants. I learned that on a camp site on the Isle of Wight, I asked where to empty my sink water and the camp man said "water the hedge behind the van and that saves me having to water that bit" fair enough. I normally carry a bucket as well and put that under the waste pipe. I also use washing up water to wash my cassette out after emptying.....good eh.

Bit of a quiet day today, and its persistently outdoors, so decided to deconstruct the overcab bed cushion that goes over the gap in the cab. The wood work has been thrown together, and the holes for the button cords were made by smashing the wood with a blunt object, so a bit of TLC will be given to the frame before I recover it. The label says it was made by a company called "Manor House DE7 8DU", just shows what some of these company's get up to behind closed doors.

Never good to look under the covers on any furniture   
There is actually a place near me that gets old suites and strips them, they then sell the frames for "new" suites to be built
