i would say go to RHYL beforeyou go anywhere else.
then you will appreciate the rest of wales.
even better would be to just drive through it.
i would go to shell island.when the kids go back to school.

on the way to Shell island at Llandulas you can park on the beach ,colwyn bay north end of the prom (normally just a few fishermen) and there is a spot at conwy (a motorhome hire depot did have a link but cant find it) not as good as Rhyl and no shellsuits but the scenery is good

I believe you can overnight at Conwy next to Morrisons Supermarket. There were a couple of campers there when we were in Wales last September/October.
I don't recommend Snowdonia if you dont want to pay pay pay. Even the laybys had pay and display meters in.
It was £28 per person to go up Snowdon on the train and that was after paying to park in the carpark across the road.
We have visited North Wales for many years but have vowed not to go back as we were very disappointed.
I can't give names but we enjoyed mid to south Wales with in the last 5years.

Sorry got my 'C' s mixed up it is Caernarfon.
We also spent a night next to water on the road between Betswy Coed (sp) and Bangor and awoke to lovely views across the water. If need to empty elsan or top with water there is a campsite on the lefthand side up near the farmhouse, about two miles before the water.. Tents are in the lower field near the road. It was £5 each last year.
