We have been to costly North Wales

Been away in motorhome first to a truck show in Telford then on to a CCC rally Bridgnorth so we could ride on a steam train! Trust us to visit the weekend of the Steam Gala. However we enjoyed the day and were amazed by the number of people waiting to take pics of the locomotives from fields along the railway lines.

So onto Wales which we have visited many times. Arriving in Betwsy Coed in the dark we followed the caravan site signs for a campsite for the night. We soon turned the motorhome round when we were asked for £25 for the night.  Told them we only wanted to sleep there not buy the site. We discovered during this trip that if a brown campsite sign appears it advertises a Caravan Club site = steep prices. But then you probably knew that.

 Eventually we found a site which mainly was used by tents.  If only we had travelled another three miles where there was a off road layby next to water. But we did stay there later in the week.  A wonderful sight to wake up to the sun glistening on the water.

The following day we decided we would travel up Snowdon on the train if the price was right:!:  We should have known better.  As we travelled towards Snowdon we noticed all the laybys were Pay and display parking:!: 

Arriving at the mountain railway we parked roadside to view the board for the cost to go up Snowdon. It was £27 each plus a charge to park the motorhome in their carpark:!:  Five vehicles left at the same time as we did - all occupants claiming it was too expensive especially when they also had to pay to park on the railway carpark.

We have been up the Snowdon railway before it cost £28 for the two of us and it wasn't that many years ago.  Because of arthritic knees we are unable to walk up Snowdon.

But the week wasn't all bad we went to Aberdaron on the Llynn Peninsular. If a National Trust member the parking is free.  Don't recommend travelling there in a large motorhome. Then we toured the Isle of Anglesey - wonderful little bays and the weather was very kind to us all week.

But we have decided we will not visit Snowdonia again as we wish to remember it as it was not a money grabbing area.

i agree the prices to go up snowdon are a big rip off,and if others done as you and the others done{refuse to pay those prices}they would have no option but to drop the prices,so good on you to refuse to pay,

Wondering if the Americans have bought Snowdonia as they did Lands End and started charging us natives just to walk on our land.

Either that or they still haven't paid for the new build cafe/bar at the top!!

Apparently when they were building the cafe the train only went  three quarters of the way up Snowdon and the fare was £18 each.

When we walked up snowdon we stayed outside carnarfon town , packed sandwiches got the bus to the car park then just walked & walked for about 9 hours all for the price of a bus journey...been there done it etc won't be doing it again but great memories.

But we walked up and when at the top went into the old cafe and my glasses steamed up and on clearing them saw at the end of the cafe a little bar and the word Boddingtons jumping out at us so we both had a pint of bodies bitter and sat outside where we drank this necta while eating a pork pie haven
