I know this could be a silly question but do you need a pet passport for the Hebredes or Southern Ireland
Just thought because they are islands across the water so to speak | |

| I looked into this when we went to Ireland, officially you do but I was told no-one would be checking and most people don't bother, ferry companies aren't checking, but that was 2 year ago _________________ Keeping Leapys boat sailing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Last year we travelled to Ireland North and South and not once were we asked about the 2 x cats. In Southern Ireland before boarding they did ask if they could look round MH inside and one chap commented on that it as nice to see the cats travelling in their boxes. Same as leaving UK to come home eurotunnel only asked if they were on board and that was that....... | |

| Surprised they didn't check on Eurotunnel John I did ask a couple of ferry companies when we were going to ireland and both said don't bother, one told me "because of the new regulations that come in for pets travelling round Europe, Ireland had to be listed but anyone travelling from the UK won't need to have a passport, even foreign vehicles aren't checked as these will have been checked when entering England" A member on here forwarded this email to me - By Email wrote:
HI,
The official line for the EU is
From 01/01/2012 the requirement is that pets travelling between Ireland and the UK should be microchipped and accompanied by a pet passport, while for entry into the UK a vaccination against rabies is also required. As both Ireland and the UK have no indigenous rabies for many decades, compliance checks on pets travelling between the two countries will not be applied. Pet owners travelling with their pets should therefore not experience any change on the ground from the 01/01/2012.
There is an agreement between Ireland and the UK that no documents (Pet Passports Rabies vaccinations etc.,) are required to enter Ireland from the UK and vice-versa. Enjoy your holiday.

Michael.

| We went to Ireland with the Motorhome over Xmas and the New Year. No pet passport required, no checks on board or on crossing from Northern Ireland to the Republic. The bonus is that the dogs travel free on all crossings to Ireland. Best fares were with Stena line booked via camping and caravan club. | |
