Solar trickle charger and leisure battery top up

Hiya,

I am planning on getting a solar trickle charger for my MH while it is in storage as the immobiliser/alarm system tends to run down the battery after several weeks. Does anyone use one of these and do you have any opinion on what wattage might be needed for it to work properly?

I am also considering buying a portable solar panel to top up my leisure batteries while travelling. Can anyone recommend a good system that I can install myself? I don't want to mount it on the roof as I travel in winter and the sun never gets that high!

Also, I wonder whether there is a system that I could use as both a trickle charger and leisure battery top up. Any recommendations or suggestions gratefully received.

I am looking for a mobile solar panel to charge mobility scooter batteries and going to the motorhome show at Yorkshire Showground between 27th to 29th March, hoping the solar panel people are their to advise.

I have a 140w solar panel on the roof of the motorhome, which initially we fitted ourselves but would prefer a panel which I could carry on the scooter.

Will post findings following the show.

Sorry Explorette there was a lack of Solar Panels at the show.  I found a stall with a couple but the stall holder had a lack of knowledge of panels.  However there was a solar briefcase panel for about £300 but I couldn't determine the wattage. I understand Monocrystalline are the best type of panels.

I've actually bought a 2.4W solar charger and installed it to keep the engine battery topped up while the MH is in storage. Will check it in a few weeks to make sure it is working. Hoping it is powerful enough to overcome the immobiliser drain.
Wondering if I can also use it on the leisure batteries through the 12v internal socket, but don't know enough about the MH electrical system to know if this will work.

Why don't you give Road Pro a ring on 01327 312233.  They are very knowledgeable and they also do a portable panel called "Port-a-Panel".  As its portable, if its is suitable, I am sure they would courier it to you.

Thanks Cheryl will give them a ring on Monday. Having looked on the Internet think part of my problem maybe getting enough watts on a 24v portable panel.
