Subject: Which Inverter? Sat 30 May 2015 - 17:52
Any recommendations for an inverter? I had a small 300w one but it packed in last week, only used it for charging the laptop and quadcopter batteries but thinking of getting a bigger one so we can power an hair dryer (need to keep my curls in place ) 1000w I think, if its not i'll make her buy one that is

Just checked Adeles hair dryer and it's a 1200w so probably better off with a 1500 or 2000 or tell her to get a smaller hair dryer Robs after an inverter too, main thing for him is an 800w microwave, do you reckon a 1000w would be ok or better with one a bit bigger

My 800 watt microwave in the Starspirit drew 1100watts and that is normal so no 1000watt isn't enough It will say on the specification plate on the rear of the appliance and you need to add a bit over that. 800watt is only the heat rating not the load it draws

Beware of some 1500watt units on ebay by chinese sellers as they are clearly only 150 watt units despite the labelling. They are physically too small and have a cigarette lighter cable with them

I bought my 2000/4000 UPS inverter charger from ebay Germany at a superb auction price. They seem to sell better products but you need to fit Schuko plugs to your appliances or use an adapter. This is a good example [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

It converts your battery 12 volts DC into 230 volts AC Huge currents are involved with a large inverter and you need a substantial amount of battery power to cope.

went for pure sine wave 300w just for charging phone laptop etc ,went off the idea of powering the microwave because of the pull on the batteries,so will stick to hook-up and using the skillet
