| Well the subject was bought up so I thought I would post some pictures of a few of my efforts over the years. Not sure what happened there, picture didn't go in so I'll try again. | |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]This is my stick, used for years when beating and picking up in the shooting field, it was photographed and the picture was included in the Holland and Holland book back in 2005-2007, I still have it. | |

| I think that's enough before somebody raises a petition to get me banned, be nice to see the work of others so please post some pictures. My friend in Florida is retiring shortly and I have promised to make him a stick to mark the occasion. It will be a composite stick made of Oak and Pine, with stag horn, buffalo horn and rams horn polished up, alluminium and brass to dress up the handle. If any stick makers are interested I will take pictures of the build process through to the finished stick, just post in this thread. I have been having a giant clear out in my shed to make room for this stick making, it was a complete mess, put loads of stuff on E Bay so I haven't visited Motor-homers for over two weeks, lots to catch up on. Stay well, stay warm, keep dry. Regards to all. Cal | |

| To be honest I never thought of having a favourite but now that you mention it I think it would be mine (the one with the name on it), it comes to the hand like an old friend, total familiarity and comfort. Thank you for the kind words, I would like to see the work of others, not just of sticks but any hand skills. I often think that the work of the ladies is underestimated, sewing, knitting, crocheting etc. traditional stuff taken very much for granted. | |

| Now THERE's a skill that's harder than it looks, my daughter-in-law made us a "beware of the dog" picture in cross stitch, I'll post a picture of it. | |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]So we started off with a shaft of oak with a pine strip glued to each face, then partly rounded off by sanding off the corners, in this picture is the "roughing out" for the rope twist and cutting into the wood with a thin bladed saw. | |

| I never thought of making a laminated stick. That's a great idea. Must try it. I have only ever made them from forest finds. Usually hazel or hawthorn or blackthorn. You have some very good looking sticks there. Hope we meet on a site one day. | |
