PostSubject: the road to nowhere   the road to nowhere I_icon_minitimeWed 22 May 2013 - 13:37

last friday we set off for honfleur,punched the numbers into the tom tom,and away we go only a 2 hour journey.we had been travelling for 1 hour 50 mins and i said to margarita i havent seen any signs for honfleur,then we went through an uphill forest which led us to a very nice village,your destination is complete the tom tom lady said,so i stopped opened the window and felt a breeze,i said we must be near honfleur with this breeze,so i got the aires book to check the longtitude/latiude numbers correct,first one ok,turn the page it read 001 it should have read 000,oh my god were are we.so i put the correct numbers back in affraid,we was 2 and a half hours away from honfleur on a hill overlooking rouen Embarassed,upto this point we had not used the peage in france,so i pushed the do not avoid peage button and off we went.

we ended up in the centre of rouen:shock: nearly went down one of them underpasses Shocked,and ended up 6 hours after we started in honfleur,only to find the aire packed to busting,so we went to a site,now margarita said to me i hope thats the last mistake Very Happy ,well yesterday we were going to le havre to get mollys passport sorted for the return journey,so i punched in the aire in le havre,even checked the route seeing the arrow going over the water Very Happy,as we were going along we were in a road block,blocked by french parents demonstrating outside a school,totally blocking both ways,even going around with cakes and biscuits to the big tailback,lucky enough we were first in the opposite direction,so i said to the leader in my best french, mouisuer i have a boat to catch,and seconds later they moved away to let me out,and then moved back to block the rest,

now as soon as we passed over the bridge with a few hundred yards to go to destination i realised that we had been to this aire before and it was not honfluer,it was deuville Shocked Shocked,oh no not again:affraid:.i could not make the same mistake as before so out with the book,as i looked at the page i seen deuville is the one underneath le havre,i had put the wrong co/ordinates in again,so now its a 30 minute trip to le havre,and with the diesal light now on{i never noticed}how long it had been on i dont know,onto the bridge up and over the next bridge up and over,margarita spots a garage,we made it by the slightest of margins.Very Happy

found the vets 59 euro the robbing barsteward,picked up our tickets and back to honfleur{we was going to stay on the aire in le havre and parked up,margarita went out with molly,and within seconds a mad dog was on its way to attack her,in my best english i was screaming at the dog,and it worked the dog backed off and so did we right off the aire}

i am going to the doctors when i get home to see do i still have a brain EmbarassedEmbarassedEmbarassed

and i am going to update my tom tom skills Crying or Very sad

Great fun in Rouen as well Frank, Pont Matilda still closed so you cannot get on the riverside Aire (parking) and the diversions are horrendous as you have to follow the Dieppe signs then head for Calais, best bet is to avoid the centre of Rouen for a long time.

Glad your sorted out and see you at the weekend.

My TomTom needs some serious updating after failing on outward journey, Baza thought I was going the wrong way most of the time
