Looking for some advice on getting one of these, some are as little as about £20 up to around £100.
Which one have you got?
Are you happy with it?
Any recommendations?

We are using the long thingy from Motorhome wifi they have a web site and attend most of the shows and seem to be very knowledgeable. Ours has certainly pulled the signals in all the way down France Spain and Portugal, unfortunately most signals are secure, but has been very handy where a site has a wifi point as it has meant we can stay in our van.

Hia

I bought a motor wifi from the Cheshire show

Nearly thrown it a couple of times
Not had any money's worth out of it
Not been a happy bunny with it
Still as to prove itself but  could have spent that money on something more useful

But that is only my opinion and that might change when it starts to prove itself.
Let's see what the others have to say ax I would be interested as well

Can you use these antennas on tablets, do they require a usb connection or are there some available without.

why are you unhappy with yours polly?
what problems are you having?

Some of them are advertised having a range of 2.5km without obstruction, what range can you get realistically, ie if on a site with no wifi but in the town down the road has free wifi spot can it be achieved etc...

Hi
Mine is of no use with a tablet and the range, which I think may be ruled by legislation, is 1 Km in ideal conditions so realistically you need to be near to houses etc. which is not often the case where we camp. It has however been useful on many aires on the continent and especially so where sites just have a wifi point.

There is some good info. on Motorhome wifi web site even if you choose a different scource

Hia

This is my 3rd attempt keep losing my post
So as you can tell I am no IT tech

I use an I pad

I have a Fon which I bought for £34 which is connected at home

I was at Abergele  in summer and tried the booster there and all sites that showed up were locked

In Europe I was getting nothing so when home phoned Adam up and he talked me through re setting it.
I went in the car to a residential area and connected to again only locked sites. There was a BT Fon which I connected to, but I also connected to it without the wifi booster.

I am going to try it with my laptop and iPad when out and about and see what happens and make a note of when I get connections, should be interesting find.

When I was at Marbury I could not get any connection but Laneside managed using a midi??? And we were enclosed with trees

But as I said this is only my opinion

Was thinking of getting on e of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220547985998?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
but think I will opt for one of these instead  http://www.motorhomewifi.com/product/iboost-d8-directional-system/ as Baza has because of the wireless connectivity from the tablet.

I have one of these - works great in the van and stuck on my netbook with the suction pads provided, when I'm in (or outside) cafes etc., when the weather is good.
Trouble is it's not waterproof so I bought one of these .. stick it on the outside of the van when we're stationary for more than a day or so and it also works great !

No, but I will next weekend at the cotton arms of someone has one, the usb hub I have is a Samsung one, only used it for my camera, card reader and once connected my phone from it.
I only have the wireless one, that works fine as long as you can find a hot spot

Tried two different kinds of booster and my tab didn't recognize either of them, not saying they won't work.
I did do a bit of Googling and found a link to how someone has got one working with a Samsung phone, and following that, it looks like the main problem is power.

Hi just collected my I-Boost from the post office, this is the one from Motorhome Wifi. The van is in the same position as it was with only the simple multi directional booster and could not connect. I can now get connected to my Daughters pub wifi, a fon and an openzone which I could not connect to before and all are working brilliant----chuffed to bits.

If anyone wants a redundant multi directional booster that connects to a USB port then shout up

Hi Polly

I could see the Openzone thingy but it was not of any use without the booster and with the booster I am running at 6 Mbs
which I feel is brilliant

Hia

While at Bakewell got out my I boost a few times on different evenings to try it out
I could get a BT Fon showing 90
My booster was showing a couple of  green and even a red light
Great I thought

Applied the  BT Fon that showed
Then went onto settings and wi fi but nothing came up except my  motorhome wifi?? No other networks

So still  a very useful useless object

Polly the first two lights only really show that the power is on, a red light means you are near a signal but possibly a weak one. You really need four lights on to be sure of a signal

Polly I agree with Alan....the two green lights on the left side of your Iboost is on with the red is just telling you you are on.....this is not enough....go onto the internet on your computer and put in 10,20,30,40...for the home page set up..then ..code and password..then  click  wifi/wireless. then the ssid click..find your fon signal then click the button on the left to put a dot in it....then press done it or apply at the bottom of the page it is the middle of the three buttons...on the next page go to the bottom of the page and prees change...then the next page at the top press Apply (if it is already set it will not change)...then on the top bar click Main....on the top of that page at the left hand side you see some band colours if you are on a fon signal..move your outside Ibooster or if you have it inside untill you get all these colours to appear.. you need a number of coulors oranges, yellows going into a light green....the more of the colours the better the signal........some time red orange and mabe a yellow is enough...
Polly it is a complicated system ....and it takes time...I hope I have been of some help to you...Mel ...the Mel & Chris your neighbour at Wilsthorpe..the wellie people

Still undecided on these wifi boosters, they seem a bit hit & miss.
I might just tether phone to tablet, I know it uses data but for the odd 10 minutes here & there it might suit me better??
