2. Mayday Bank Holiday At Whittingham Beer And Sausage Festival, 28th April To 3rd May (5 nights)

I have spoken to Whittingham Club about having a rally again at next years beer and sausage festival, I have managed to reserve 15 places for 2 month to give members chance to book, I have to contact him on the 6th of July with number of vans attending, if we don't fill the 15 places we might be able to extend it but it all depends on bookings they have taken so we need to act fast on this one.
I have booked it for 5 nights, although you don't need to stop for all 5 if you don't want to, the price is £6 per night. (2015 price, will confirm 2016 prices soon but think they are staying the same)
The beer festival is on for 3 days, Friday to Sunday and this needs to be paid for when booking at a cost of £18
The other 2 days can be collected when on site.

St Johns Church is still there but in a bad way but it is a listed building so hopefully something will be done with it before it's too late.

Whittingham Hospital opened officially on 1st April 1873, built by bricks made on site, the source being what became to be known as the “duck pond” but referred to on maps as the “fish pond”. The kiln for the manufacture of the bricks was situated, apparently, in what is known “Super’s Hill Woods”, at the back of the hospital, on the road to Grimsargh. The hospital was built in four “phases”, the first being St Luke’s (the Main), followed by St John’s (the Annex), then Cameron House, and lastly St Margaret’s (the New or West Annex). In addition to these ‘divisions’ there was also a Sanatorium of fourteen beds built for Infectious Diseases, which became known as Fryars’ Villa, later to become part of the accomodation for the resident staff. The hospital served the community for almost 150 years, and, in its’ day, was a virtually self sufficient community.

On completion of St Luke’s division, the first part of the hospital to be built, rules for staff were published; staff had to be on duty by 0600 and retire to bed by 2200. They were allowed to go out one day every three weeks and one Sunday every month

In 1901 the introduction of 10/- (ten shillings – (50 pence today)) per week was introduced for staff on annual leave in lieu of rations. The attendant staff wanted a shorter working week at this time, as their recorded working week was 98 hours! Annual leave at this time was; 10 days for Attendants; 12 days for Second Charges and 14 days for Charge Attendants. The daily diet of patients and staff included one glass of Ale which was brewed on site in the hospital’s own brewery!

£5.00 entrance fee, with the entrance fee you get a beer festival glass, KEEP THIS, the glass as well as a wrist band is your ticket into the beer festival over the 3 day period

How it all works at the beer festival

This is taken from last years brochure
Step 1
Buy your tokens at the front desk. Prices are equivalent to £2.50 per pint of real ale or cider.
£5.00 buys 4 tokens. One token is worth one half pint of any cask beer or cider (within the
festival). Two tokens will purchase any of the sausages shown in this programme from the
food counter outside on the patio.
Step 2
Choose your beer or cider by reading this programme, or go to the festival beer bar and
select your drink. A full list of beers and pump numbers is on the wall. Then pay with the appropriate
number of tokens – it’s that simple!
Step 3
Repeat steps 1 and 2 as required.
Step 4
Go home happy and return with your glass and wristband for free entry to any of the other
sessions.
Drivers Bar
Postmix Cola, Lemonade and Soda water are available free of charge at the festival bar.
The Whittingham Club bar, within the members’ room, will be open for cash sales of non-festival beers,
lagers, spirits, soft drinks etc. Visitors are required to sign the Guest Book.
