2. Mayday Bank Holiday At Whittingham Beer And Sausage Festival, 28th April To 3rd May (5 nights)

First topic message reminder :

I have spoken to Whittingham Club about having a rally again at next years beer and sausage festival, I have managed to reserve 15 places for 2 month to give members chance to book, I have to contact him on the 6th of July with number of vans attending, if we don't fill the 15 places we might be able to extend it but it all depends on bookings they have taken so we need to act fast on this one.
I have booked it for 5 nights, although you don't need to stop for all 5 if you don't want to, the price is £6 per night. (2015 price, will confirm 2016 prices soon but think they are staying the same)
The beer festival is on for 3 days, Friday to Sunday and this needs to be paid for when booking at a cost of £18
The other 2 days can be collected when on site.

Route shown from the Stags Head to the camping field, when you arrive just tell the Steward you are with Motor-Homers and he will send you in our direction.
Last time I spoke to David he said we would be parking in the corner highlighted in blue, If this changes I will let you all know on here.

St Johns Church is still there but in a bad way but it is a listed building so hopefully something will be done with it before it's too late.

Here's a few extracts from that website:

Whittingham Hospital opened officially on 1st April 1873, built by bricks made on site, the source being what became to be known as the “duck pond” but referred to on maps as the “fish pond”. The kiln for the manufacture of the bricks was situated, apparently, in what is known “Super’s Hill Woods”, at the back of the hospital, on the road to Grimsargh. The hospital was built in four “phases”, the first being St Luke’s (the Main), followed by St John’s (the Annex), then Cameron House, and lastly St Margaret’s (the New or West Annex). In addition to these ‘divisions’ there was also a Sanatorium of fourteen beds built for Infectious Diseases, which became known as Fryars’ Villa, later to become part of the accomodation for the resident staff. The hospital served the community for almost 150 years, and, in its’ day, was a virtually self sufficient community.

On completion of St Luke’s division, the first part of the hospital to be built, rules for staff were published; staff had to be on duty by 0600 and retire to bed by 2200. They were allowed to go out one day every three weeks and one Sunday every month

In 1901 the introduction of 10/- (ten shillings – (50 pence today)) per week was introduced for staff on annual leave in lieu of rations. The attendant staff wanted a shorter working week at this time, as their recorded working week was 98 hours! Annual leave at this time was; 10 days for Attendants; 12 days for Second Charges and 14 days for Charge Attendants. The daily diet of patients and staff included one glass of Ale which was brewed on site in the hospital’s own brewery!

£5.00 entrance fee, with the entrance fee you get a beer festival glass, KEEP THIS, the glass as well as a wrist band is your ticket into the beer festival over the 3 day period

Coffee morning in the event shelter at 11am - any cake makers amongst you.................    
Pay your rally fees and for any extra nights you have stayed over the 3 you have already paid for (£6 per night)
If anyone fancies a walk down to the pub for a meal I will arrange this, can you please let me know ASAP if you would like to go for a meal
Monday evening
Have a night in the event shelter to wind down before the rally closes at 12:00 On Tuesday 3rd April

No Tony, all our pitches for this meet are non electric, Leccy pitches were booked up before last year's beer festival finished

i am bringing a generator in case anyone needs it.just bring the juice.

Sorry to leave you all this afternoon. We have located our daughter Sally in Keld ,upper Swaledale. She is halfway through walking the Coast to Coast route from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay - been walking on her own in the rain ,snow and hail all week . She was losing motivation to carry on due to all her wet kit, so she can use some of ours tomorrow when I am going to walk with her. It also means Kim can put Sallys big rucksac in the van for the day and meet us at the end of the day. So doubt we will be back with you for the rest of the meet.

Yes, the weather was awful, but who cares? We still had a great time with good people and tasting excellent beers!

We had a surprisingly easy, queue free trip back to Chester. There was a minor bump on the M6, but it happened just before us, so we managed to get passed before things got snarled up.

Thanks everyone for coming even though the weather was against us, very wet inside as well as out
Sampled some good beers over the weekend
Sorry we had to cut the coffee morning short but getting off the field while the tractor was there was priority, sun come out on Monday afternoon after we had all relocated into the car park and the field was pretty dry by tea time - typical!!
